How to Get Delisted

If your IP appears on a blacklist, here's how to fix it:

  • Identify the root cause — compromised account, misconfigured mail server, open relay, or spam complaints. Fix the underlying issue first.
  • Request removal from each specific blacklist. Most have a self-service delisting form:
  • Set up proper email authentication — ensure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records are correctly configured. Use MXToolbox SuperTool for a deep-dive analysis.
  • Monitor with Google Postmaster Tools — see your domain's reputation with Gmail, spam rate, authentication results, and delivery errors. Essential for anyone sending email at scale.
  • For Gmail-specific blocks — Google maintains its own reputation system independent of DNSBLs. If Gmail rejects your mail, review your Postmaster dashboard for spam rate spikes and follow their Bulk Sender Guidelines.
  • Prevent re-listing — set up feedback loops (FBLs) with major providers, keep complaint rates under 0.1%, maintain clean mailing lists.
